JonoF's Build Engine Port (JFBuild)
This is the home page for my port of the Build source code to Win32 and Linux. The intention is to improve the Build engine in a way which remains true to the DOS version while adding modern enhancements to take advantage of modern advances in technology. Many of the newest technical features of the port are thanks to the generous work of Ken Silverman, the original author of the Build engine.
JFShadowWarrior perhaps? That would be here.
Looking for other Build game ports?
They don't exist yet because the companies who produced the original games haven't opened up the code to the public (yet).
Features of this port:
- New network code. At long last, networking has finally been done. New code written by Ken Silverman makes the networking features more robust and responsive than other ports that use crutched-up versions of the old DOS code.
- Ken Silverman's "Polymost" full 3D renderer which includes OpenGL support.
- MD2/3 3D model support. Ken has also written 3D model rendering code for Polymost.
- "Hightile" True-colour textures support for true-colour textures to replace the normal 8-bit art in OpenGL mode.
- Unrestrained Build 2D editor screen size. This means you can have a 1024x768 2D editor if you like.

| UltraSPARC IIi (may work on other models of SPARC, but have not been tested) | |
| Graphics | OpenGL-capable card highly recommended |
To compile the source you will need:
| Windows | Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 or newer |
|---|---|
| or OpenWatcom 1.2 or better | |
| or MinGW32 (GCC 2.95.3 or newer) | |
| DirectX 6 SDK or newer | |
| Other Platforms | GCC 2.95.3 or better |
| SDL 1.2 | |

Downloads
Available on this site is a snapshot of the source and the binaries built from that snapshot. The files are available from the JFBuild download area. Here is the README file packaged in the binary and source archives for more details on what you need.
Head to the new downloads area for links to the files.
You will need both the binaries and game data archives to run the port. Extract both archives to the same location on your harddisk.
The game data is the property of Ken Silverman. You can get the original source that this port is based off from Ken's site.
Bugs
I'm slowly squashing them and I've found things to be very stable now, however there may still be issues, and if you have any I'd appreciate hearing about them. Send me as much information about your computer, and what I need to do to reproduce any errors.
Contacting Me
I can be contacted via email at jf@jonof.id.au. I welcome and encourage any bug reports or suggestions for improvement.
